Rule Changes Announced for Daytona Cup Race

The NASCAR Cup Series will see a different rules package for its upcoming race at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR announced July 15.

The change is meant to allow for less drag on the Cup Next Gen car, which would ideally result in more passing opportunities for each driver.

As part of the new package, cars’ rear spoilers are shortened from 7 inches to 4, along with a reduction of horsepower from 510 hp to 465.

The Daytona race will be held on Aug. 29, the regular-season finale for the Cup Series.

  1. Compare the drag on a 79 Thunderbird and the current car. More drag on the 79 meant it created a bigger hole in the air for the car behind to get a run on and made it easier to pass. NA$CAR took away using the draft to make it harder to pass.
