“Fourth time’s the charm,” FOX Sports broadcaster Eric Brennan remarked when Max Reaves took the checkered flag at Berlin Raceway on Saturday, June 20. Yes, in his fourth start of the season, Reaves was victorious for his first win of the national division season and fourth of his career.
Reaves gave the Joe Gibbs Racing team its third straight triumph and fifth of the season. As such, the No. 18 team extended its lead in the owners’ points standings after race No. 9 of the 20-race season.
Reaves was quickest in practice and led the most laps, though he had to pass Thomas Annunziata after Annunziata grabbed the lead following the second competition caution. Annunziata was the other driver to lead laps in the 200-lap race.
Jake Bollman finished third to maintain his lead in the drivers’ point standings.
Two women completed the top five with Taylor Reimer in fourth and Isabella Robusto in fifth.
At his home racetrack, Tyler Lupton had quite the debut. Lupton overcame an early spin, falling two laps down, to wind up sixth.
Will Robinson made his main-series debut en route to a seventh-place run in his No. 25 Nitro Motorsports Toyota.
Matt Kemp ended up as the last driver on the lead lap in eighth place.
In his first race as an owner/driver, Zachary Tinkle was ninth and Jason Kitzmiller rounded out the top 10 in 10th.
The first of the two big moments in the Herr’s Snacks 200 occurred when Lupton spun his No. 28 Pinnacle Racing Group Chevrolet while battling inside the top five.
The second was Reaves’ race-winning pass with 45 laps to go.
He drove away from Annunziata to a 1.057-second lead en route to capturing the win at the 7/16-mile short track in Marne, Mich.
