For the fifth time in five races, Alex Palou put his No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda on pole position, this time for Sunday’s (June 21) XPEL Grand Prix at Road America. The defending NTT IndyCar Series champion and current points leader went 0.2927 seconds faster than Team Penske’s David Malukas to capture his first pole at the Wisconsin track.
“It’s incredibe, five in a row this year,” Palou told FOX after the session. “This team and everybody at Honda has just given me the best car, all the power we needed. We suffered quite a lot there in Q2, couldn’t really get the lap we wanted, but the car was super rapid. Just so happy.
“Tomorrow’s going to be tough. It’s going to be a long, long race for everyone. I don’t really know what tire is best, it seemed like everybody was unhappy with the Alternates yesterday and suddenly, today, they’re so much faster. I think it’s going to be very interesting in terms of strategy and stuff, but obviously, we’re starting from a great spot and hopefully we can keep it there.”
