Christopher Bell suffered ankle and wrist injuries in a hard crash during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday (June 7), according to his team owner Joe Gibbs.
“We’ll just have to kind of wait,” Gibbs said. “It was his wrist and his ankle, I think. We’re just going to have to wait.”
Bell and Chase Elliott were involved in a lap 148 crash that knocked both drivers out of the race and damaged the turn 3 wall at MIS.
The race was red-flagged for over 20 minutes as safety crews repaired the wall. Bell finished 31st.
Bell was checked and released from the infield care center, though he did not speak to the media afterward.
The driver of the No. 20 was seen with his wrist in a wrap prior to boarding his flight back.
Following his DNF at Michigan, Bell dropped three spots in the point standings to 10th place, 78 points above the Chase cut line.
The next Cup Series race is June 14 at Pocono Raceway.
