Corey Heim Wins Truck Race at Michigan After Late Duel with Kaden Honeycutt

Corey Heim just edged out TRICON Garage teammate Kaden Honeycutt at the line to win the DQS Solutions and Staffing 250 at Michigan International Speedway after the two drivers battled in the closing laps on Saturday, June 6.

It’s Heim’s third NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win of the season in five starts. It’s his 26th career win in the series, putting him two wins behind the tie between Mike Skinner and Jack Sprague for third on the all-time list.

“He (Honeycutt) tried to get to my right rear there, which would’ve probably won him the race and I had to protect it,” Heim told the FOX broadcast on the frontstretch. “Tense couple laps there at the end, but that was pretty awesome.”

Behind Heim and Honeycutt, NASCAR Cup Series regular Carson Hocevar finished third, and the Front Row Motorsports teammates of Layne Riggs and Chandler Smith finished fourth and fifth.

“We got stuff to clean up on our end for sure,” Honeycutt told the FOX broadcast on pit road. “It was a good race there at the end…unfortunately, we didn’t get the win there, I’ve just felt like I’ve lost too many of them.”

Christopher Bell swept both stages and finished sixth, while Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Connor Mosack, Jake Garcia, and Tyler Ankrum finished in the seventh to 10th spots, respectively.

A couple of incidents on track were scattered throughout the event and one of the notable crashes was pole sitter Ty Majeski crashing out of the race.

Soon after, a hard crash involving Spencer Boyd and Cole Butcher occurred, which led to the last restart of the race.

Butcher finished 33rd followed by Boyd in 34th.

After the restart, Hocevar grabbed the lead for 11 circuits before Heim made the pass for the win with 15 to go, including fending off Honeycutt by 0.065 seconds.

Riggs remains the points leader but Honeycutt cut into his lead from a 37-point margin down to 26.

Garcia moved into a Chase spot with his top-10 run while Stewart Friesen dropped out after his 22nd-place finish.
