New River All-American Speedway Shutting Down

The North Carolina short track racing scene has lost another racetrack. Jacksonville, N.C.’s New River All-American Speedway announced May 28 that it will be closing its doors, effective immediately.

New River hosted the zMAX CARS Tour from 2022 to 2025, seeing three different winners in four years.

It served as the Tour’s season opener for the 2025 season.

“New River All American Speedway held its first race July 31, 2021,” the track wrote in its social media post announcing the closure. “It’s been a wild ride. Memories & friendships made that we will never forget. Over the last several weeks & months we’ve had many discussions about the future of New River. Yesterday, we made the tough decision to close the doors. For those of you who supported New River, thank you will never be enough.”

The track opened in 1999, known as Coastal Plains Raceway. The current ownership took over the track ahead of the 2021 season.
