Rain Halts Opening XFINITY Series Practice at Chicagoland Speedway

A large rain storm has stalled opening NASCAR XFINITY Series practice for the final race of the regular season at Chicagoland Speedway.

Series regulars got just over 20 minutes to try to dial in their cars before a large storm cell descended upon the Joliet, Illinois facility. Daniel Suarez‘s 30.475-second lap sat atop the charts as the session came to a halt, with Erik Jones (30.672) and Kyle Busch (30.684) following to give Joe Gibbs Racing the top three positions.

However, while JGR led the way, there weren’t all cheers from the organization. Busch’s No. 18 team will be forced to swap motors after the Nevadan’s primary motor blew early in the session. Busch, who was first on the charts at the time, immediately went to the garage area.

JJ Yeley and Joey Logano rounded out the top 5 in the session, with Elliott Sadler, Ty Dillon, Kyle Larson, Brandon Jones and Justin Allgaier completing the top 10. Jones enters the day as the only driver in the field with significant track time at the 1.5-mile oval on the weekend, having competed in Friday’s Scott 150 for the ARCA Racing Series.

The next scheduled on-track activity is opening Sprint Cup Series practice at at 1:30 p.m. ET, followed by final XFINITY Series practice at 3 p.m. ET.
