I do have some random thoughts on happenings within NASCAR and I’ll share them with you here.
Matt joined Frontstretch in 2007 after a decade of race-writing, paired with the first generation of racing internet sites like RaceComm and Racing One. Now semi-retired, he submits occasional special features while his retrospectives on drivers like Alan Kulwicki, Davey Allison, and other fallen NASCAR legends pop up every summer on Frontstretch. Regan Smith, driving for an underfunded single-car team based out of Colorado, scored the second big upset win of the season at Darlington.
This weekend NASCAR racing returns to the Cradle of Champions, Darlington, SC. That remains somewhat of a miracle to me.
Kyle Busch was able to stretch 107 laps out of a tank of fuel to drive to victory Saturday night at Richmond.
There’s darn few weeks off included in the modern NASCAR Cup schedule, three all together if I am counting correctly.
If these guys aren’t going to race until the final five to 10 laps, then why is the race at Talladega 188 laps long?
Some of the buzz heading into May and Charlotte Speedweeks has involved which five NASCAR figures would be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Dramatic Moment: There were damn few of them as Matt Kenseth took the rest of the field to school most of the race in Texas.
Is this stock car racing or Romper Room? What’s got into Cup drivers lately? Nobody wants to be the bad guy. No one wants to be rude. No one wants to be booed.
Denny Hamlin, the winner of three straight Martinsville events was then resigned to 12th position.
