Legacy Motor Club announced Sunday morning (Sept. 27) that Erik Jones has signed a multi-year extension to continue driving the No. 43 Toyota Camry for the organization.
“I’m excited to be a part of what Legacy Motor Club is building,” Jones said. “Through every change, we continue to get better…especially this season, I feel like we’ve hit on something and been consistent.”
Jones took over the No. 43 in 2021 while the company was still branded as Richard Petty Motorsports. He won his second career Southern 500 in 2022 with the team while it was under the Petty GMS Motorsports banner.
This season, Jones is currently 21st in points with two top fives and five top-10 finishes so far. He earned a best finish of second at his home track, Michigan International Speedway, back in June and was in contention to make the Chase for the Championship before three DNFs in the final four regular season races derailed his summer.
Overall, though, Jones has improved on his average finish from the season before (19.9) and the team is excited about the No. 43 car’s growth throughout 2026.
“Erik Jones is the cornerstone of what we are building here at Legacy and he has earned that,” team co-owner Jimmie Johnson said. “Keeping Erik in the No. 43 for the long term was a priority for us, and we are glad to have it done.”
This announcement officially finalizes Legacy Motor Club’s full driver lineup for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season, with Jones returning to the No. 43, Josh Berry taking over the No. 42 from John Hunter Nemechek, and Riley Herbst piloting the newly-chartered No. 84 car.
Michael Bellifemini joined Frontstretch in February 2026 as a contributor. Bellifemini was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Seton Hall University.
