Richard Childress Racing announced a pair of leadership appointments on Sept. 23, and one has implications for the crew on one of its NASCAR Cup Series teams.
Richard Boswell will be the team’s vp of competition beginning in 2027, while Art Trejo has been named RCR’s director of development and innovation.
Boswell is currently Austin Dillon‘s crew chief on the No. 3.
“Everyone at Richard Childress Racing remains relentless in our desire to win and compete at the highest levels of our sport but we know we’re not quite where we need to be,” Richard Childress, RCR’s chairman and CEO, said in a team release. “We’re announcing these changes now because we want to make sure we have the right people, the right leadership and the right technology in place to compete at the level RCR expects to compete at.
“Richard Boswell is a talented leader who knows racing, knows how to lead people, and knows what it takes to win. I know he will do a great job taking on a larger role in leading our competition team.
“Art Trejo brings a completely different set of experiences and a new way of thinking that I believe can help take our racing operations forward. We’re going to keep pushing, keep investing and keep looking for ways to get better.”
Boswell has earned one win as the crew chief of Dillon at RCR, coming at Richmond Raceway in 2025.
Before joining RCR ahead of the 2025 season, Boswell had 15 years of experience in the motorsports field, working for Hendrick Motorsports, JR Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing. He also has a start in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2009 for JRM.
Trejo’s position is described as leading RCR’s efforts to identify, develop and implement emerging technologies. Trejo has degrees from both Princeton University and UCLA, served 27 years in the United States Navy and will be joining RCR from SpaceX.
Dillon has five top 10s in 2026, and Kyle Busch had earned two top 10s before his death earlier this year. His replacement, Austin Hill, has a best finish of 18th.
Logan Kendall joined the Frontstretch team in 2025 as the Tuesday news writer and eventually branched out into assisting with Frontstretch's social media and video team operations as well. Outside of motorsports, he has an interest in history, meteorology, and government.
