Louis Foster Crashes at Markham After Dominant Run Early

After starting on pole position for the second time in his young NTT IndyCar Series career, Louis Foster crashed out of Sunday’s (Aug. 16) Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham.

Foster was passing eventual winner Marcus Ericsson for third place when the British racer had contact with the inside wall at the apex of Turn 3. That contact sent the No. 45 Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing Honda directly into the wall at the outside of the corner.

“I just hit the wall. There’s not much else to it,” Foster said. “Yeah, just super annoying because we act, yeah, we actually had a shot to win today, 100%, We got completely screwed by the yellow and then drove our asses off to get up to P2 for half a second until we were in the wall.

“And we had pace on everyone, I mean the first stint towards the end we struggled a little bit on pace, but we had a big [fuel] number to hit and, you know, I don’t think the other guys are saving near anywhere near as much fuel as I was.”

The second-year driver was having his best drive of the season, after clinching his second career pole on Saturday (Aug. 15). Leading early, he was forced to fight his way through the top 10 to climb back to the lead after a badly-timed caution put him down the field. Marcus Armstrong spun at the Turn 5 hairpin just seconds before Foster was supposed to make his first pit stop.

Because he was nearly out of fuel, Foster had to stop under the full course yellow and that dropped him near the bottom of the top 10. After the ensuing restart, he was moving through the top five when his race came to a premature end, placing 22nd.

  1. I was laughing right up to the crash, I knew he was going to crash. Then he cranks the wheel into the wall and cried like a little titty baby that the crash was the tracks fault. There were three dumbasses that steered into the wall and crashed out, only little Louie blamed the track, took no responsibility at all. He’s a hack that gets lucky once in a while, but he will never win a a race, never.
