This week on Bringing the Heat with Trey Lyle, Jeremy Clements joins Stephen Stumpf from Pocono. This past weekend’s O’Reilly race was a milestone for Clements, who tied Kenny Wallace for most starts in series history.
Clements reflects on his career, from his first start in 2003, to comparing his role to drivers with more funding and on bigger teams. He also shares how his team came up with the idea to honor Kenny Wallace at Pocono. Clements’ record-breaking start will come in unique fashion at San Diego, and he doesn’t see himself slowing down anytime soon.
After the interview, Chris Graham hops on to talk this week’s hottest topics. That includes RFK Racing announcing that Chris Buescher signed an extension. Both Graham and Lyle feel Buescher could have been a hot commodity, so it was important for RFK to lock Buescher in for another few years. Within the Ford teams, Jesse Love will drive the No. 21 in 2027. Lyle believes it feels like a big signing for the Wood Brothers and Ford, while Graham said it’s a big loss for Chevrolet as well.
In other announcements, Jimmie Johnson is joining the TNT Sports broadcast for their NASCAR slate, which begins in Sonoma. The two believe it’s a bonus to get Johnson’s perspective, both as someone who’s driven a Next Gen car, as well as an owner involved with a Toyota team.
Before the soundbite, Lyle and Graham also take a look at the In-Season Tournament Challenge bracket which was released after Pocono.
This week’s soundbite comes from Erik Jones, who has had a solid couple of weeks with Legacy Motor Club. Lyle and Graham take a second to praise the work the LMC team has done to get into a place where they are weekly contenders in the front half of the field.
