Alexander Rossi has been taken to the hospital for further evaluation after a crash in Indianapolis 500 practice Monday (May 18), the NTT IndyCar Series announced.
Late Monday evening, Ed Carpenter Racing released a statement detailing that Rossi had undergone outpatient procedures to address minor injuries to a finger on his left hand and to his right ankle. Rossi will recover under the supervision of INDYCAR Medical Director Dr. Julia Vaizer and intends to partake in both final practice on Friday and the Indy 500 on Sunday.
Dr. Vaizer noted previously that Rossi is “awake and alert, and in good spirits” after the crash at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Rossi spun coming off of turn 2, collecting Pato O’Ward. Romain Grosjean also spun and crashed trying to avoid the incident.
Both O’Ward and Grosjean were seen and released from the infield medical center.
Rossi had qualified second to Alex Palou on Sunday.
The Indy 500 is set to run this Sunday, May 24 at 12:30 p.m. ET and airs on FOX.
