Katherine Legge to Attempt the Indy 500-Coca-Cola 600 Double

Katherine Legge will attempt to do the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 double, e.l.f. Cosmetics announced in a release May 13.

Legge will drive for Live Fast Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Should she complete it, she would be the first woman to do the double.

“Very few drivers ever get the opportunity to attempt ‘The Double,’ and I do not take that opportunity lightly,” Legge said in the release. “This challenge is about pushing through perceived limits, betting on yourse.l.f., taking risks and trying to do something unique. I am so incredibly grateful to e.l.f. for believing in what this moment represents and for building a community around it.”

In the Indy 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, she’s piloting the No. 11 HMD Motorsports/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet.

She’ll be the sixth driver to perform the feat, with John Andretti, Kurt Busch, Robby Gordon, Tony Stewart and Kyle Larson all previously attempting the double.

Legge has run eight Cup races over the past two years, including last weekend at Watkins Glen International.

She’s also run in four Indy 500s, with a best finish of 22nd in 2012.

  1. I’m sure she is a talented driver within her depth.
Was she not just added late to the 500 to get a full field?
I’m sure Penske is paying Foyt a pretty penny to avoid a 32 car field.
As for the 600. Don’t know how much sponsor recognition you get running laps down all night.

  2. Very cool! It appears she will have decent equipment at Indy, though I’d imagine this won’t be the case for Charlotte. Hope she is able to do this. I think many NASCAR and Indycar fans don’t realize she’s a world class sports car driver.
