This week on Bringing the Heat with Trey Lyle, Kyle Petty previews the Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America coming up in May. This year will be the 30th cross-country ride, raising funds to send kids to camp at Victory Junction.
With nearly 30 years of memories, Petty lists off a number of stops he’s made, as well as places he would like to return to on the ride. This year, the ride will include trips along some of America’s best-known roads to coincide with the country’s 250th anniversary.
After the interview, Stephen Stumpf makes an appearance to take a look at this week’s trending topics. The hottest conversation this week has revolved around John Probst’s comments regarding the evaluation of using a crossover vehicle or electric vehicle in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. While nothing is imminent, Stumpf believes this shows just how much power the OEMs still have in the NASCAR world.
The two also react to Daniel Dye taking over Live Fast Motorsports’ No. 78 car for a handful of races, including Talladega. While Dye will likely get his first Cup start with the team, he has to put in some work to outqualify one other driver, as 41 cars will attempt to make the field of 40.
After more ratings discussion, Stumpf and Lyle discuss the current pros and cons of NASCAR’s current media deal. While the Amazon Prime aspect seems like a plus in the eyes of Stumpf, he feels like the rest of the media deal has been a loss for the Cup Series and could be troublesome for the next few years.
This week’s soundbite is from Denny Hamlin, who shared his frustrations after a victory was seemingly ripped away by a late Kansas caution Sunday afternoon. Lyle and Stumpf review Hamlin’s comments and whether or not races should end at their scheduled distances.
