William Sawalich will miss his second straight NASCAR Xfinity Series race this weekend at Phoenix Raceway, he announced Oct. 29.
Sawalich, driver of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Toyota, will sit out this weekend’s race at Phoenix as he continues to recover from a crash at Talladega Superspeedway, from which he suffered concussion-like symptoms after being taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
In a video posted to X, Sawalich stated, “as a driver, you want to be back behind the wheel for your team, but I understand the importance of being fully ready before returning.”
Justin Bonsignore will be back behind the wheel of the No. 18 Toyota Camry after filling in for Sawalich at Martinsville Speedway last weekend, where he finished 10th.
Bonsignore has competed in eight races this season for JGR, most of them in the team’s No. 19.
In 31 races during his rookie season in the Xfinity Series, Sawalich has three top fives and nine top-10 finishes, with a best finish of second at Portland International Raceway and World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway.
