INDIANAPOLIS — Between a pit stop miscue and a spin, nothing much was going right for Felix Rosenqvist in Saturday’s (May 10) Sonsio Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
The Swede fell from eighth to 20th in the span of nine laps. But by the end of the 85-lap race, Rosenqvist had rallied to 10th for his fourth top-10 finish of the 2025 NTT IndyCar Series season.
Rosenqvist was running ninth after the first lap of the race and moved past Alexander Rossi for eighth on lap 6, but a slow first pit stop on lap 18 left him 13th after the first pit sequence.
Seven laps later, Rosenqvist was attempting to pass Rinus VeeKay for 12th place as the pair headed to turn 7. That move failed, sending Rosenqvist’s No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Honda spinning and costing him over 10 seconds in the process.

“I was fighting with VeeKay and I don’t know if he was like in second gear or something out of turn 7 because he didn’t accelerate on the exit,” Rosenqvist said of the incident. “So I just ran into him when I was trying to do the undercut. It was kind of awkward and I spun.”
The setback trapped Rosenqivst deep in the field, but he still had time to rally. The 33-year-old moved back up to 17th before the second pit stop sequence began on Lap 37. After that round of stops, he sat 14th.
After losing a spot on the next pit stop sequence, the season’s first full course yellow since the opening lap of the St. Petersburg season-opener bunched up the field, giving Rosenqvist a greater chance to move up in the closing stages.
He wasted no time taking advantage of the opportunity. Rosenqvist gained 14th from Devlin DeFrancesco on Lap 73 and moved ahead of Rossi for 13th two laps later. Nolan Siegel was Rosenqvist’s next victim on Lap 79 and Josef Newgarden met the same fate on Lap 81.

The final nut to crack to get into the top 10 was Louis Foster. The rookie weaved on the backstretch between turns 6 and 7, but Rosenqvist was able to make a pass stick on the edge of the track on the penultimate lap to grab 10th.
“He did the snake there and I was just very determined to go on the inside,” Rosenqvist said. “It was kind of a push to pass game between us, so it was kind of fun, to be honest. Also, really good racing between a lot of the guys out there, so big respect to everyone on the grid for racing fair and it was a fun race with it.”
The end result was a salvaged run, but it left Rosenqvist yearning for more given the pace his No. 60 Honda showed throughout the race.
“We had good pace and after several things going on here and a couple of mistakes on my side, we still ended up P10,” Rosenqvist said. “I think it could have been a pretty good day, but that’s the way it is in IndyCar.”
Rosenqvist will next be on track as the NTT IndyCar Series begins practice on Tuesday (May 13th) ahead of the 109th Indianapolis 500.
