The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to the ROVAL at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, September 30 for the final race in Round 1 of the Playoffs. This is the third road course event of 2018, and the only one on the 2018 Playoff schedule.
40 cars are entered this week, meaning nobody will go home. With the road course, comes several changes to the entry list.
StarCOM Racing will enter only one car this weekend with the No. 00 of Landon Cassill after Joey Gase drove the car to a 34th place finish at Richmond.
Ross Chastain will take the wheel of the No. 7 car for Premium Motorsports instead of his usual No. 15 car. Justin Marks will drive that car for the second time this season.
Daniel Hemric will be back in the No. 8 car for Richard Childress Racing for his second career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series start. In Hemric’s one Cup start this season, he finished 32nd at Richmond back in April.
J.J. Yeley returns to the No. 23 car for BK Racing after Israeli driver Alon Day made his oval Cup debut last weekend at Richmond.
Timmy Hill will drive the No. 66 car for Motorsports Business Management this weekend for the team’s seventh consecutive start in the series.
Cole Whitt will be behind the wheel of the No. 72 car for Tri-Star Motorsports. Corey LaJoie has driven the car for the last several weeks. This will be Whitt’s first start since Watkins Glen back in August.
Regan Smith will once again be in the No. 95 for Leavine Family Racing, subbing for Kasey Kahne. It has not been announced yet whether Kahne will be back for Dover yet, but this will be Smith’s 4th race in this car. If Kahne is not back for Dover, we expect Smith to continue driving the car.
Opening practice takes place Friday, September 28 at 12:05 p.m. ET with coverage on NBCSN. The green flag waves at approximately 2:16 p.m. ET on Sunday, September 30 with coverage on NBC.
