Race Weekend Central

Entry List: Zippo 200

The XFINITY Series will compete at three road courses in August, and first up is Watkins Glen International this weekend.

As of Tuesday, there are 40 cars entered, meaning all will make the race, barring any entry list updates.

Team Penske will field two cars on Saturday with Brad Keselowski in the No. 22 car and Joey Logano in the No. 12 car. The organization competed with two cars last year as well, and Logano won with Keselowski finishing second.

Trevor Bayne returns to the XFINITY Series this weekend for his first start since 2014 when he ran full-time for Roush Fenway Racing. He will pilot the No. 60 AdvoCare Ford Mustang. He has four series starts at Watkins Glen, with his best result of ninth coming in 2011.

Road racing specialist Kenny Habul will climb behind the wheel of the No. 88 for JR Motorsports this weekend. The Australian has 12 career series starts, all at road courses. He has competed in road racing events for Joe Gibbs Racing over the last two seasons, finishing as high as 14th twice at Road America. His best result at Watkins Glen came in 2012 when he finished 20th.

The XFINITY Series will begin practice on Thursday with two sessions, the first at 1 p.m. and second at 3:30 p.m. (all times ET). Final practice will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed by qualifying at 4:45 p.m. Coverage of the Zippo 200 begins Saturday at 2 p.m. on CNBC.

While I’m a fan of Team Penske, I wish Roger Penske wouldn’t put Brad and Joey in his Xfinity cars. Ryan Blaney is a rookie, and Roger should be giving him more track time. And if he wants to put two cars in the race, why not give another rookie a little extra track time, someone like Chris Buescher.

Better yet, Hey Roger, why don’t you hire Johanna Long to drive your Xfinity car!
