It was an important test session at Atlanta Motor Speedway Thursday afternoon as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tested for the first time using the 2015 rule package. The teams had two test sessions on Thursday with a pair of Chip Ganassi Racing cars leading the pack in the first session.
Jamie McMurray turned the fastest lap of the day in the first session, registering a speed of 191.549mph. His teammate Kyle Larson was second quick (190.195 mph) with Kevin Harvick (189.850 mph), Clint Bowyer (189.720 mph) and Matt Kenseth (189.675 mph) rounded out the top 5.
Meanwhile, Jeff Gordon led the second session of the day a 115 minute session. Gordon led the session with a speed of 188.424 mph. Second quick was Ryan Newman (188.418 mph), followed by Harvick (188.066mph), Larson (187.939 mph) and Kasey Kahne (187.621 mph).
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series has one practice session on Friday before the 5:45 p.m. ET qualifying session.
