Scott Wimmer Racing for MacDonald at Kansas; Future Uncertain

DOVER, Del. – Scott Wimmer will be racing for MacDonald Motorsports at Kansas next weekend (Oct. 8), the driver told Frontstretch Saturday at Dover. Wimmer, driving the No. 82 this weekend for the team as a start-and-park effort, said that the car the team is fielding this weekend is the same machine he’ll be running the distance at Kansas next week. “Here we’re just trying to get the bugs worked out of it,” said the driver.

The deal came about based both on Wimmer’s relationship with team owner Randy MacDonald. With the team not tearing up a lot of equipment thus far through 2011, race-ready cars meant a seat for Wimmer and a resource for the team’s primary driver in Blake Koch.

“I think he’s very capable of running up front,” said Wimmer of Koch. “He’s just got to learn to put the whole race together, adjust to how the car changes. These different racetracks are something I can help him with.”

From Kansas, the future is uncertain. “I don’t know what the rest of the season holds, whether it’s helping Randy [MacDonald] with some start-and-park stuff … or there’s some other stuff out there.”

“I got a few things [in the works for 2012]. The whole landscape of the sport has changed the last few years. When I first got in it, the team found a sponsor and then they found a driver. Now, the sponsors seem to be following the drivers around. I’ve had some great sponsors over the year, I’ve just never been able to take them with me.

“There’s some deals out there, some look better than others. I just want to be racing full time again.”
