A driver’s first win in a series is always special and that is why Atlanta was the high point for Ty Dillon’s 2012 season.

Joey Coulter scored his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series victory in August at the Pocono Mountains 125.
A year removed from Daytona 500 glory, 2012 was a step back for Trevor Bayne.

It’s hard to find fault in a season that produced four wins and a runner-up points finish, but there were oh so many factors that really should have made this one the year for Elliott Sadler and the No. 2 team.
_Attention, NASCAR fans… welcome to Throwback Thursday! Every week, from now until the start of the 2013 season we’ll be giving you, our readers the favorite stories we treasure from our writers over the past few seasons. Today we focus on Beth Lunkenheimer, one of the site’s Managing Editors who shares some pieces she’s treasured over the past 18 months._
_From Beth: This piece was my first, full-length feature based on an extended interview with a driver (instead of just a straight-up Q & A). I was so worried as I was writing that it wouldn’t work out; however, it turned out to be one of my favorites that I’ve ever written in my several years with the Frontstretch._

_From Beth: Charities have always held a special place in my heart, and when there’s a NASCAR driver involved, it’s just that much more important to me. These type of “Charity Corner” stories are what we hope to bring you more of, on a monthly basis with the Frontstretch in 2013._

Austin Dillon won both trips to the Bluegrass State in 2012 for the Nationwide Series, but his first one, the first Nationwide win of his career, was in dominating fashion.
*Did You Notice?…* The snoozer of a NASCAR offseason to start off 2013? Of course, last year’s circuslike atmosphere (Kurt Busch’s firing, the resulting musical chairs, Kasey Kahne’s breastfeeding “boo boo,” Greg Zipadelli joining old buddy Tony Stewart) comes around oh, about once a decade. But this time around, even with the new Gen6 car there’s been more excitement surrounding “the girlfriend”:http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8825207/aj-mccarron-girlfriend-katherine-webb-spotlight-bcs-title-game of a college football quarterback in the sporting world than stock car racing. You can bet number two on the list of New Year’s Resolutions for Brian France (behind “find some way, _any_ way to keep my divorce records sealed) is for some giant piece of news to pop out of the sky between now and Daytona Speedweeks.
*With 2013 on the horizon, what was the biggest issue in NASCAR that has, thus far, gone unresolved?*
Matt S.: Aero push.
Mike N.: Aero dependency.
Amy: Aero dependency and late season ratings.
Summer: The way these cars race (even with the new ones coming). No one likes them. Not the drivers, not the crews, not the fans.
