Sheldon Creed won the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night (Sept. 18) over William Sawalich, who finished second.
“I just thought we were gonna have to take one on the chin tonight and have to move on, but yeah, it just worked out our way,” Creed said about the race. “I’d like to think we’re a favorite, if not, we are at least talked about now.”
This is Creed’s third win of the season, and he extends his lead in The Chase ahead of Justin Allgaier, who finished fourth, to 11 points. Brent Crews placed in third, while Corey Day rounded out the top five.
Taylor Gray finished sixth while Sam Mayer, Parker Retzlaff, Dean Thompson and Sammy Smith made up the rest of the top 10.
Allgaier won the first stage followed by Carson Kvapil, Crews, Jesse Love, Mayer, Smith, Gray, Creed, Retzlaff and Day to make up the top 10.
Kvapil won stage two with Allgaier, Love, Mayer and Gray making up the top five, with Crews, Day, Sawalich, Creed and Retzlaff following behind them.

Rajah Caruth who started 10th got a flat tire on lap 68 which sent him free falling down the standings. He would finish 23rd.
On lap 73, Austin Hill got into the fall, giving him a flat tire which sent him to the pits to fix and he also got send down the standings. Hill would finish 22nd.
Allgaier suffered major damage to the front of the car after getting into it with the No. 87 Nick Sanchez taking the lead late in the first stage. The damage wouldn’t affect him too much as he was in the top five all day.
Anthony Alfredo got into the back of Natalie Decker after she checked up on turn four on lap 125.
Alfredo had multiple tires issues, the first being at the end of stage one and the second on lap 153 which dropped him from 13th to 32nd.
On lap 248 Kvapil came on the radio to talk about a possible loose wheel. He would also be black flagged for slowing down a couple laps before getting to pit lane. Kvapil finished 24th.
With 27 to go Patrick Staropoli would spin, bringing out the caution for the second to last time. Crews, Day and Creed would be some of the drivers to pit for fresh stickers and that would end up being the difference for Creed to win.
On the restart, Love would get into Allgaier which slowed both of them down. Gray then got into Love after taking the lead before Sawalich took advantage and got a commanding lead.
With four laps to go, Ryan Sieg would get into the wall, bringing out the caution and putting the race into overtime which Creed won.
The O’Reilly Auto Part Series takes a week off before returning to the track on Saturday, Oct. 3 for the Focused Health 302 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Green flag is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
