Kaden Honeycutt led a career-high 225 laps, swept the stages, and got maximum points after his dominant win on Saturday (August 15) afternoon in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Richmond Raceway.
It’s Honeycutt’s second win of the season and the second of his career, and he keeps his chances at the number one seed alive heading into the final race of the regular season next weekend.
“We’ve had a rough last couple weeks, we just wondered what the heck was going on, we’re not a 7th-10th place team,” Honeycutt told the FOX broadcast postrace. “What a dominating day, I’ve never been able to do like that before.”
Corey Heim crossed the line in second to give TRICON Garage a 1-2 finish. Christian Eckes finished third, polesitter Shane van Gisbergen finished fourth and Grant Enfinger completed the top five.
Jake Garcia, Chandler Smith, Tristan McKee, Gio Ruggiero, and Daniel Hemric finished in the sixth through 10th positions, respectively. At 16 years old, McKee made his Truck Series debut in the No. 77 Spire truck.
Honeycutt dominated the first two stages, taking the lead on lap three and spending 195 consecutive laps out front. Enfinger took the lead on pit strategy during the final stage as his team decided to stay out for the remainder of the race to gamble on fuel.
However, the caution came out with 35 to go after Stewart Friesen’s crash to bunch up the field for the final restart of the race.
Honeycutt passed Enfinger quickly on that restart and never looked back to get back on track and seal an impressive victory after a couple of disappointing races leading up to this event.
“I think that (strategy) put us in position to win, we just weren’t good enough on the short run,” Enfinger told the FOX broadcast on pit road. “Maybe we were a top three truck on the long run.”
Layne Riggs had struggles on pit road on multiple stops which dropped him down to a 15th-place finish. He now has a 61-point lead over Honeycutt heading into the final race of the regular season.
At The Chase bubble, Hemric is 35 above the cutline while Tyler Ankrum holds the final Chase spot, 20 points over Friesen following the latter’s 36th-place result. Garcia is 21 points back.

The Truck Series will return to action on Saturday, August 22 at 1:30 p.m. ET from New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the 18th race of the season. The race will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1.
