Six-time NTT IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon will leave Chip Ganassi Racing at the conclusion of the season, CGR announced July 2.
It’s the end of a 25-year relationship that started in 2002 after the third race of the CART season.
“Scott has meant so much CGR over the past 24 years,” owner Chip Ganassi said in a release. “Together we’ve shared championships, many victories, and countless moments that have helped define this organization.
“Because of everything we’ve accomplished together, and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing, and we made him a multi-year offer to do just that.
“We respect that he’s chosen a different path and wish him nothing but continued success. Scott will always be a special part of this team’s history, and we’re grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.”
No information was provided on Dixon’s future team, or who will replace him in 2027. Dixon has not yet commented on the move either.
Dixon moved to CGR after PacWest Racing folded early in 2002. Since then, the New Zealander has won 58 races, 32 poles, six championships and the 2008 Indianapolis 500 with Ganassi. However, he has struggled in 2027, with only one podium through the season’s first eight races.
The team returns to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend with Dixon as the defending winner.
