With Sonoma Raceway in the rearview mirror, the NASCAR Cup Series is now finished with road courses for the 2026 season.
This season, there were only four road courses on the NASCAR schedule, down from six in 2025. That also means there are no road courses in The Chase this season.
This year’s pattern marked a backtrack from NASCAR‘s previous efforts to get more road courses on the schedule.
On this week’s episode of NASCAR Mailbox, Ben Lloyd responds to your feedback on how many road courses should be on the calendar for next year.
30, 30 Road course races.
2 – Watkins Glen and Sears Point/Sonoma. Replace the others with short track courses.

They are different tracks but they are both in California in the Ununited States of America.
Less or no road courses! Bring back some of old original southern tracks, like Rockingham. Remember your roots!
I’ve been a fan of road racing since I was a kid in the 60’s, and have crewed road racing teams since the late 70’s. My first trip to a road race was at Watkins Glen in 69, so maybe I’m not the best to ask, but I’d say 4-5 road races. As long as they’re on true road courses, and not temporary street or oval infield courses.
My vote would be for Watkins Glen, Road America, Mosport and COTA, and since the left coast doesn’t have any ovals I guess Sonoma too. My problem with Sonoma is compared to the beautiful greenery surrounding most other road sources, Sonoma’s brown landscape just takes a lot away a lot of what makes most other road courses so enjoyable.
I’d love to see roughly ten races on short tracks (all less than 1 mile), ten on 1 to 1 1/2 mile ovals, ten races on ovals 2 miles and over, and 4-6 races on true natural terrain road courses.
