Stat Sheet: Breaking Down 23XI Racing’s Banner Day at Naval Base Coronado

On Sunday (June 21), it was Heim time in San Diego.

Corey Heim made a late-race pass on 23XI Racing teammate Tyler Reddick to pick up his first career NASCAR Cup Series win in the Anduril 250 at Naval Base Coronado.

Heim’s maiden triumph at NASCAR’s highest level was the cherry on top of a superb day from top to bottom for the four-car Toyota stable, co-owned by Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan. On this week’s edition of Stat Sheet, we examine the key numbers that tell the story of 23XI’s exemplary performance in the Golden State.

10.365 – Margin of Victory for Corey Heim

What was shaping up to be a duel for the checkered between the young phenom Heim and the accomplished veteran Reddick turned into a runaway when the latter suffered a flat left-front tire with two laps remaining on the 3.4-mile street course.

As a result, Heim established a comfortable lead over the field, one that his spotter described as “200 car lengths.” In terms of time, Heim won the race by a cozy margin of 10.365 seconds, doing burnouts on the straightaway past turn 2 before second-place Bubba Wallace (more on him later) crossed the finish line.

Heim’s margin of victory is the largest for a driver in their first career win since the late great Alan Kulwicki bested the field by a staggering 18.5 seconds at Phoenix Raceway in 1988.

8th – Finishing Position for Riley Herbst

He may have a foot out the door at 23XI, but Riley Herbst continues to show significant improvement from his nightmare rookie season in 2025.

Herbst brought his No. 35 Toyota home in eighth, matching his career-best Cup finish originally set at this year’s Daytona 500. It is Herbst’s first-ever Cup top 10 on a non-superspeedway. Furthermore, Herbst spent time out front with three laps led, just the second race of his Cup career with multiple laps led.

Despite setting multiple career benchmarks, Herbst wound up being overshadowed by Heim, his replacement in the No. 35 Toyota for 2027. However, days like Sunday are great auditions to other owners in the Cup garage for a new ride next season.

2nd – Career Best Road/Street Course Finish for Bubba Wallace

Road/street courses like Coronado have not been a strong suit for Wallace over his Cup career. Entering San Diego, the driver of the No. 23 Toyota had just one top five and four top-10 finishes across 40 prior Cup starts at road and street courses.

Overcoming an early two-lap penalty for a lost wheel, Wallace set a new personal best making left and right-hand turns, taking the checkered flag in the runner-up spot. Though it was one position short of the desired outcome, it was still a big step forward for Wallace, demonstrating that he’s becoming a more versatile driver.

In terms of the points, Wallace moved up two spots to 11th in the standings, opening up a 67-point gap on The Chase cut line.

90 – Green Flag Passes for Tyler Reddick

Reddick’s 25th-place finish does not accurately reflect how the day went for the California native. Reddick paced the field for nine laps, the third-most laps led out of any driver. Furthermore, he ended the day tied with Ross Chastain for the most green flag passes with 90, showing an ability to navigate through the field on a new street course.

For Reddick’s season going forward, perhaps the most important number right now is eight. That is all that is left of his points lead over Hamlin that was once triple digits. Will Reddick be able to regain his white-hot early season form to fend off his boss for the top seed in The Chase?

613 – Laps Led by 23XI Racing in 2026

Coronado was just the latest chapter in a breakthrough 2026 season for 23XI Racing. The six wins already marks the highest single-season total for the organization since it debuted as a full-time Cup team in 2021. Granted, Reddick gets the lion’s share of the credit with his five victories, but it’s a noteworthy feat nonetheless.

Even when it’s capturing the checkered flag, the team is consistently putting itself in contention to win. At 613 laps led, 23XI sits third among Cup Series team through 17 races this season, trailing only well-established powerhouses Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports.

Crunching The Numbers from Naval Base Coronado

27.33 – Average Finish for Trackhouse Racing

Pretty shocking, isn’t it?

The team that boasted not one but two of the prohibitive favorites in Shane van Gisbergen and Connor Zilisch wound up leaving San Diego empty-handed.

Zilisch and SVG were both victims of the lap 32 crash off turn 1, plummeting down the running order to 37th and 38th, respectively. Instead, Chastain carried the day for Trackhouse with a seventh-place showing.

It was a particularly difficult result to swallow for van Gisbergen, who was probably counting on wins or least top fives at the road courses to help his bid to make The Chase. Now, SVG finds himself as the first driver on the outside looking in, five points below the cut line.

Next week presents a good opportunity for him to bounce back with a trip to Sonoma Raceway. With it being the last road course race of the season, a great finish is a must for van Gisbergen in his bid for the postseason.

124.2 – Kyle Larson’s Driver Rating

The winless streak continues for Kyle Larson, now stretching to 41 races since his victory in 2025’s spring race at Kansas Speedway.

However, Larson is knocking on the door of victory lane with four top fives in the past five races, including placing third on Sunday. The No. 5 Chevrolet was a consistent presence at or near the front at Coronado, with Larson leading the second-most laps of any driver at 11.

Larson and the No. 5 team are clearly trending upward as the Cup Series hits the dog days of summer, throwing their hat in the ring to defend their 2025 championship.
