Layne Riggs Wins Shortened Truck Race at Charlotte

After a record-setting 11 cautions at Charlotte Motor Speedway for a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, Layne Riggs brought home his second checkered flag of the 2026 season.

Riggs won the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 after it was shortened to 110 laps as several crashes slowed down the pace enough to bleed into FOX’s coverage of the 2026 Indianapolis 500.

The Bahama, North Carolina, native dedicated his win to the late Kyle Busch by taking his signature bow after performing a burnout in front of the crowd.

“I hope he’d be proud of that performance,” Riggs told the FOX broadcast on the frontstretch. “Our hearts are really heavy this weekend and I’ve been struggling with it a little bit and just trying to have my game face on and right.”

Kaden Honeycutt finished runner-up, Connor Zilisch finished third, Ben Rhodes finished fourth, and Gio Ruggiero completed the top five.

“Unfortunately, we had to race against a freaking time clock,” Honeycutt told the FOX broadcast on pit road. “(We) couldn’t go more than four or five laps green today, really just a bad race for all of us.”

Stage 1 winner Christian Eckes finished sixth, while Brandon Jones, Tanner Gray, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, and William Sawalich finished in the seventh to 10th positions.

Riggs also won the second stage of the race and led 52 total laps during the event.

The race ended after Chandler Smith spun out and hit the inside wall while battling Zilisch for a position inside the top five.

The other major crash during the event occurred on Lap 47, when Corey Day, who started on pole, driving the No. 7 Spire truck for Kyle Busch, tried to block Ruggiero but was a tad late. Day spun down the backstretch and briefly had all four tires off the ground before smacking the inside wall on the driver’s side. Day’s truck came back up the track and made contact with Mini Tyrrell, ending his race as well.

Honeycutt remains the Truck Series points leader over Layne Riggs, but Riggs cut Honeycutt’s margin over him from 38 points down to 11 with the win.

  1. All 3 races end before all the laps completed and it could have totally been prevented. After waiting out all that rain, Nascar goes back to green and throws a caution 7 laps later for the end of the stage. What a joke. And they wonder why people hate the stage breaks. You just had a ton of commercials during the 4 hour rain delay, so you accommodate more commercials 7 laps after finally going back to green? It just boggles my mind the decision makers at Nascar.
