2026 Indianapolis 500 Qualifying Live Report

Welcome! This will serve as a live update hub for qualifying for the 110th Indianapolis 500 on May 24.

All 33 cars drew their spot in the qualifying order Friday evening and will go out one at a time for their four-lap qualifying run.

The updates will come as cars complete their runs, with the most recent runs at the top of the listing.

The Format

Each car will complete a four-lap qualifying run with their average speed across all four laps serving as their qualifying speed. Positions 13-33 will be set during the first round. The fastest 12 qualifiers will then make another run in the Fast 12 Shootout. Rows 3 and 4 will be set and the top six cars will qualify one more time in the Fast Six Shootout, which will determine pole position and the first two rows.

As there are only 33 cars attempting the race, there will be no bumps. All cars will be starting next weekend’s race.

Due to Saturday’s (May 16) rain delay, each car will only get one qualifying run, so there are no lanes to track. All runs will be described below.

(4:10 PM) Indianapolis 500 qualifying has been postponed to Sunday (May 17). Qualifying will now start on that day at 12 p.m. ET, with Fast 12 beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying will be proceeded by a practice session in the morning at 9:30 a.m. ET.

(3:00 PM) Still no update from IndyCar. There’s another cell of rain that will hit the speedway in an hour.

(2:00 PM) All track drying has stopped following another storm cell hitting the track. No word from IndyCar yet.

(1:00 PM) There is further rain incoming in the next 30 minutes or so. We’ll continue to update this report hourly unless and until there’s an update from IndyCar.
