The NTT IndyCar Series has updated its qualifying procedure for the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, the series announced May 11.
Since there’s a full field of 33 cars entered, there’s no bump day, but drivers will have an extra day to be a part of the top 12 vying for the pole.
Day one of qualifying will set the field for positions 16-33. Additionally, the fastest nine drivers will be locked into the Top 12 session on day two.
The second day of qualifying will feature those who were ranked 10th-15th in a Final 15 round, where drivers will do a four-lap run to compete for the final three spots in the Top 12.
Then the top six drivers will move on to the Firestone Fast Six to attempt to win the pole for the Indy 500.
The first day of qualifying is set to begin Saturday, May 16 running from 11 a.m.-5:50 p.m. ET. It’ll be on FOX Sports 2 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., on FOX Sports 1 from 2-4 p.m. and on FOX from 4-6 p.m. ET.
Day two of the Final 15 round of qualifying starts Sunday at 4 p.m. ET and airs on FOX.
