Dennis Hamlin, Father of Denny Hamlin, Dead at 75

Denny Hamlin’s father Dennis Hamlin died on Dec. 29 due to injuries sustained in a fire that occurred at his North Carolina home, Gaston County EMS confirmed.

Dennis was 75 years old.

Denny’s mother, Mary Lou Hamlin, was transferred to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem for further treatment.

The fire took place on Sunday, Dec. 28, night in Stanley, a small town in Gaston County. Its cause is unknown at this time and is under further investigation.

Per WSCOC-TV, firefighters from multiple counties worked to extinguish the fire, which engulfed the whole house.

Stanley does not have fire hydrants, so all the water needed to put out the fire had to be trucked in.

Denny Hamlin just completed his 20th full-time NASCAR Cup Series season with six wins and second place in the point standings. Hamlin overall has 60 wins in over 700 Cup starts.

Hamlin also co-owns 23XI Racing, which finished its lawsuit trial, with Front Row Motorsports, against NASCAR in December.

  1. Heartbreaking news. May the Lord wrap the Hamlin family in his arms and give them comfort through these difficult times.

  2. Absolutely awful. I realize Denny’s father was terminally ill, but this is such a horrible way to go. As someone who also lost their father to an accident, it’s a mental roller coaster no one left behind can ever be prepared for.

I hope Denny’s mother recovers both mentally and physically, and I hope the family finds a path through the grieving process. Dark days in NASCAR land recently.

  3. I’ve never been a fan of Denny the racecar driver, but certainly never wished anything like this upon him or his family. I hope he can find comfort in remembering everything good about his father, and pray for a full and speedy recovery for his mother.
