Shane van Gisbergen Rockets to Pole Position in Shortened Mexico Cup Qualifying

For the first time in 2025, Shane Van Gisbergen will lead the field to the green flag in the NASCAR Cup Series’ debut race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez after NASCAR shortened qualifying due to rain Saturday (June 14).

The driver of Trackhouse Racing’s No. 88 Chevrolet completed the fastest lap of the session with the pole lap coming at a speed of 93.904 mph around the 2.42-mile road course.

The pole is the second of van Gisbergen’s Cup Series career, with his first coming last season at the Charlotte Roval.

RFK Racing’s Ryan Preece will join SVG on the front row with the second fastest time in qualifying as the quickest Ford driver.

Ross Chastain, Ty Gibbs and Michael McDowell round out the top five starting spots for Sunday’s race while Kyle Larson, Todd Gilliland, AJ Allmendinger, Joey Logano and Daniel Suarez complete the top 10.

Ryan Truex, filling in for Denny Hamlin in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 Toyota, will start from the 36th position in the 37 car field. All 37 drivers entered in this weekend’s race will start, with no drivers going home after qualifying.
