Sam Mayer Scores ARCA West Win at Sonoma

In his return to ARCA Menards Series racing, Sam Mayer added to his already impressive road course resume with a dominant win in the ARCA Menards West Series’ General Tire 200 from Sonoma Raceway.

Mayer prevailed over Tyler Reif, who finished second in his pursuit of the West championship, while his primary competition for that title, Sean Hingorani, finished third.

William Sawalich rebounded from a trip through the grass to finish fourth, while Jack Wood rounded out the top five.

Isabella Robusto steadily climbed the running order throughout the race to finish sixth, with Eric Johnson Jr. finishing just behind her in seventh.

Brandon Jones, Kyle Keller and Travis McCullough completed the top 10.

After starting from the pole, Mayer battled with Sawalich in the opening stages of the race, with Sawalich prevailing to pace the field. He opened up a sizable gap on his competition, with the rest of the top five also distancing themselves from the field before a caution for a Nick Joanides spin.

On the ensuing restart, Sawalich ran wide off into the grass, allowing Noah Gragson to briefly claim his position before he too ran wide..

In a race that saw little side-by-side action after restarts, Mayer remained mistake-free at the front and appeared to be well on his way to an uncontested victory.

However, a caution for a Trevor Huddleston spin prompted a one-lap shootout to decide the race, as the yellow waved just before Mayer saw the white flag. Despite the adversity, Mayer executed a flawless restart to claim the win.

After an extended break, the ARCA Menards Series West will return to action July 4 for the NAPA Auto Parts 150 from the Irwindale Speedway.
