Two NASCAR Cup Series teams and one NASCAR Xfinity Series team were penalized after wheels came off the cars at Texas Motor Speedway, NASCAR announced Sept. 26.
Austin Dillon‘s No. 3 of Richard Childress Racing and the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing entry driven by Todd Gilliland lost wheels on Sunday.
Jackmans Josh Sobecki and Matthew Schlytter as well as rear-tire changers Michael Johnson and Coleman Dollarhide are suspended for two Cup races.
Additionally, Jeb Burton‘s No. 27 of Jordan Anderson Racing also had a wheel detach on Saturday. As a result, Jackman Justin Clapper and rear-tire changer Dakota Bonds are also suspended for the next two Xfinity events.
The teams violated Section 8.8.10.4.C in the NASCAR Rule Book (Tires and Wheels), which refers to the “loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle during the event.”
Also, Sammy Smith‘s No. 18 of Joe Gibbs Racing, which finished third on Saturday, was found with an unsecured lug nut. Crew chief Jeff Meendering was fined $5,000.

It’s amazing how much body damage a Reverend Joe car can sustain and then it goes faster. Worked for Baby Busch and it seems for Humblin and Marty too.
