North Wilkesboro Cancels October Dirt Events

North Wilkesboro Speedway’s planned dirt races in October have been canceled, XR Events announced Sept. 7.

Racetrack Revival, which was put on via a series of races on the asphalt surface last month, was set to return on a dirt surface at the historic track. But according to XR CEO Barry Braun, the move from asphalt to dirt would not be able to be pulled off before October in an effective manner.

“As we’ve studied the conversion process from asphalt to dirt, we’ve come to realize we simply cannot properly prepare the track in such a limited period of time to produce the racing product fans and competitors deserve,” Braun said in a company statement.

“After further renovations at the property, we look forward to returning to North Wilkesboro Speedway to produce more of the very best in grassroots racing,” he added.

XR will be providing refunds for those who purchased tickets.

Carson Kvapil won the main event at North Wilkesboro last month, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished third.

  1. All the info I’m seeing, plus the announcement set for tomorrow is likely leading to a 2023 North Wilkesboro All-Star Race announcement.
