Kurt Busch will miss Sunday’s Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway in the NASCAR Cup Series, 23XI Racing announced Aug. 10.
This will mark his fourth straight race missed, as Busch is still recovering from a concussion sustained in a practice crash last month at Pocono Raceway.
“Brain injury recovery doesn’t always take a linear path,” Busch tweeted. “I’ve been feeling well in my recovery, but this week I pushed to get my heart rate and body in a race simulation-type environment, and it’s clear I’m not ready to be back in the racecar.
“This was by far the hardest week emotionally because I do feel the progression of recovery, but racing requires an extreme physical and mental effort, and my body is not 100% able to sustain the intense race conditions.
“I am making progress and pushing hard each day. I am encouraged by my team of doctors, and we will continue to do everything it takes to get me to 100% to return to competition.”
Ty Gibbs will once again fill in for the ailing Busch in the No. 45 car. In three Cup Series starts, he has posted one top-10 finish: 10th last Sunday at Michigan International Speedway.

Not worth taking any chances with your brain as you get older Kurt. Call it a career and move on to broadcasting. Life’s too short and your blessed both financially and health right now. Why chance it, your smart enough to know that.
Someone needs to give that same advice to Dale Jr. He had really bad concussion symptoms before he recovered. But he retired because the doctor said Dale should not chance another hard hit. But Dale Jr. continues to race one or two races a year. Why? He has plenty of money and a beautiful wife and family. He is risking never walking his daughters down the aisle for one off races. Again why risk it.
I hope he never gets hurt again, but if he does I hope someone has the guts to write the article about how dumb and selfish he was.
Dale Jr. please stop.
