Esteban Ocon has signed a three-year extension in Formula 1 to remain with the Alpine F1 team until 2024, the team announced June 16.
Ocon first joined the group formerly known as Renault in 2020 and earned a career-best finish of second at Bahrain. He debuted with Manor Racing in 2016 before competing for Force India from 2017-2018.
“I’m delighted to continue with the team beyond this year and it’s a fantastic feeling to secure my future with Alpine,” Ocon said in a team release. “We’ve been progressing well together since I joined the team and I aim to continue that journey going forward. There are great challenges ahead of us, especially with the new regulations in 2022. I’m sure we can hit our targets by working hard together and continuing the story.
“I often think back to the Sakhir Grand Prix last year with the podium, and it motivates me to create more special memories like that. I’m really looking forward to the next chapter but, for now, we’re very much focused on this season and taking each race as it comes.”
Ocon is currently ranked 12th in the point standings; his best finish so far this season is seventh at Portimao in the Heineken Grand Prix of Portugal. He competes with teammate Fernando Alonso, who’s in his first full-time season since 2018.
Extremely happy to announce I will continue with @AlpineF1Team for 3 more years, I’ve been part of the team for a long time but i’m very much looking forward to write more memories together? #EO31 pic.twitter.com/9fCDKCqh3b
