John Hunter Nemechek Joining Joe Gibbs Racing for 3 Xfinity Races

John Hunter Nemechek will race in the No. 54 Toyota of Joe Gibbs Racing in three NASCAR Xfinity Series events, the team announced Friday (June 11).

Nemechek will race at Bristol Motor Speedway in September, Texas Motor Speedway in October and the NXS championship race at Phoenix Raceway.

He made one start in the series this year for Sam Hunt Racing at Dover International Speedway.

In total, Nemechek has made 52 Xfinity starts, earning one win, 12 top fives and 30 top 10s since 2018.

He currently competes full time for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Camping World Truck Series and has earned three victories, six top fives and eight top 10 finishes in 10 events this season. He also leads the point standings.

Nemechek has nine career Truck wins, 34 top fives and 58 top 10s in 112 starts.

Nemechek joins Ty Gibbs, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Ty Dillon in the No. 54 JGR Xfinity car.

The Food City 300 at Bristol, the final race of the regular season, airs Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

I wouldn’t be surprised if John Hunter is being groomed to eventually race for JGR. Ty Gibbs will, for sure, but John Hunter could as well. Hamlin, Truex, and Busch won’t race forever. Bass Pro Shops sponsoring a driver with Hunter in his name seems like a match.

So these 3 dates were not filled yet. I wonder if Ty Dillon is done with the 54 car.
