Martin Truex Jr. on Cup Pole at Richmond

Martin Truex Jr. will take the helm at the start of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond Raceway Sunday, April 18.

The No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing pilot claimed the pole after winning at Martinsville Speedway last week.

JGR teammate Denny Hamlin lines up next to Truex on the front row. Hendrick Motorsports cohorts Chase Elliott and William Byron make up the second row, while Team Penske’s Joey Logano rounds out the top five.

Kyle Larson begins sixth, Ryan Blaney is seventh and Christopher Bell starts eighth. Kevin Harvick takes ninth and Kyle Busch completes the top 10 starters.

Four weighted categories were combined to set the lineup: driver’s and car owner’s finishing position from the previous race (25% each), rank in team owner’s points (35%) and fastest lap from previous race (15%).

Cup Lineup: Toyota Owners 400

The Toyota Owners 400 airs on April 18 at 3 p.m. ET on FOX and MRN.

Tim Sawyer

So tired of seeing Denny Hamlin start on front row. If they can practice and do heat races at Bristol then they qualify each week.
