Ryan Vargas will run full time for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2021, the team announced Jan. 25.
He’ll drive the No. 6, a team for which he competed in a part-time schedule in 2020.
2021 will mark Vargas’ first full-time season in a NASCAR national series. He’s competed in 12 Xfinity races over the past two seasons, with one top 10, an eighth at Texas Motor Speedway last year.
“Having the opportunity race the No. 6 Chevy for JD Motorsports full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series is an absolute dream come true,” Vargas said in a team release. “This has been my dream since I was a kid and I have worked towards for the last nine years. I don’t come from a racing family, but they have embraced my dream and allowed me to chase it. I can’t wait to put my hometown of La Mirada, Calif., on the map and make them proud.”
Vargas becomes the team’s fourth full-time driver, following Colby Howard, Jeffrey Earnhardt and Landon Cassill. It currently stands as JDM’s first time with a full slate of full-time drivers in four cars after generally having part-time racers fill some of its entries in the past few years.
