NTT IndyCar Series veteran Takuma Sato will continue with Rahal Letterman Lannigan Racing next season. The team made the announcement Saturday, Oct. 24, a day before the 2020 finale in St. Petersburg.
It will be Sato’s fourth straight season and fifth total with RLL.
“I am very pleased that we were able to come to terms with Takuma to continue with us in 2021,” said Bobby Rahal, RLL co-owner, in a team release. “Clearly it has been a successful partnership over the last several years, culminating in this year’s Indy 500 victory and I look forward to further success with Takuma throughout 2021.”
The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner has six career INDYCAR wins, including this year’s Indy 500, as well as 14 podiums across 11 full-time seasons. He’s also scored 10 poles, with his last one coming at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway earlier this year.
“I am very excited to continue with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for the 2021 season,” added Sato. “The 2020 season was an unforgettable one for many reasons. Needless to say, it was an extremely challenging situation worldwide but the team continued to work very hard to be competitive under the difficult circumstances. Bobby, Mike, and the entire team deserve huge credit. Our Indy 500 win was a truly special moment and I want to thank everyone at the team again. We are already focused on the future and I am really looking forward to 2021.”
Though his number wasn’t mentioned, Takuma Sato is likely to continue driving the No. 30 Honda.
