Last weekend, few drivers had much to get past Ty Gibbs in the ARCA Menards Series at Pocono Raceway.
Friday night in Indianapolis, however, Gibbs was reduced to the role of a bystander as the 2020 Calypso Lemonade 200 came to a close.
KOELLE: CHANDLER SMITH DOMINATES AT LUCAS OIL RACEWAY
One of only two drivers to lead at Lucas Oil Raceway going into the first race break, Gibbs’ hopes of back-to-back wins were extinguished 90 laps into the 200-lap event when he pulled into the pits with mechanical issues.
Ugggg engine issues. Very frustrating, thanks to my team and everyone who helped out!! We had a killer car, just couldn’t prove it. @MonsterEnergy #why #sucks https://t.co/wg7fH4UV2m

According to MAVTV’s coverage, Gibbs’s night ended due to a broken alternator belt. He was credited with a finish of 15th, snapping a string of top-five finishes in his other two starts in the series this year – third at Phoenix Raceway and first at Pocono.
Overall, Gibbs is ninth in the championship standings despite not competing in two races. Of the drivers who have not competed full-time, he ranks third-best behind Chandler Smith and Tanner Gray.
The ARCA Menards Series returns to action Saturday at Kentucky Speedway. Coverage of the General Tire 150 begins at 2:30 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1.
