Ryan Newman Released from Hospital Following Daytona Crash

Ryan Newman has been treated and released from Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach, Fla., Roush Fenway Racing announced Wednesday (Feb. 19).

This news comes after an update earlier on Wednesday that Newman was fully alert and walking around Halifax.

Roush’s tweet announcing the news included a photo of the driver walking away from the hospital with his daughters.

Newman was injured in an incident on the final lap of the Daytona 500 Monday night, which was won by Denny Hamlin. He was transported to Halifax after the race.

RFR has yet to announce who will drive the No. 6 Ford in Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

That is awesome news. I hope he isn’t too worse for the wear. I thought he’d be much more banged up. Glad that’s not the case. Whew,,, NASCAR dodged another bullet.

This IS great news!! So happy for him and his family. I’m certain he’s beat up pretty good, and I hope he heals quickly and completely without any lingering issues. Today is an awesome day! :-)

When I think about the fairly simple flip and landing on the roof that killed J.D. McDuffie and all the head-ons that killed guys through 2001 and then think how Ryan Newman basically had a worst case scenario crash (only a direct hit from the front of a car at speed to the roof or the floor would be worse) and to walk out looking as good as he does, NASCAR has the safest racecar on the planet. That said, if this incident can save Ryan’s marriage and family… David Ragan made the choice. Cole Pearn made the choice. Maybe it’s time for Ryan to make the decision. With drivers getting to NASCAR so young, I think we’re going to see more and more drivers retire when they have school-aged children. The schedule is too much. Fernando Alonso might be the tip of an iceberg of drivers at many levels going into semi-retirement and then doing bucket list stuff with racing. I know I really hope Jimmie Johnson doing some Indycar racing happens. When I see Ryan with his two girls, I’d rather see his family stay together and if that means I don’t get the joy of watching the most difficult guy in NASCAR to pass, that’s okay.
