William Byron, Liberty Extend Sponsorship to 2020-2021

Liberty University has extended its sponsorship of William Byron through 2021, Hendrick Motorsports announced Sept. 19.

Byron, a student at Liberty, will carry the university’s colors in 12 races apiece for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

“Liberty University has been a big part of my racing career and progression through NASCAR from basically the beginning,” Byron said in a release. “Their support on and off the track, including with my studies, has been monumental.

The university has served as Byron’s primary sponsor in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for the past two seasons, including his 2018 Rookie of the Year campaign. Additionally, the institution backed the 21-year-old’s 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship run.

“We have been by William Byron’s side as he’s risen through the ranks at a young age, and it is an honor to continue to support one of our very own in his career,” Jerry Falwell, president of Liberty University, said.

This season, Byron has scored three top fives and four poles, including this year’s Daytona 500. Additionally, he has also notched 10 top 10s and scored his first-ever playoff birth.

I find it amazing how/why some sponsors are involved in NASCAR. What goes into the total thought process from both sponsor and car owner and driver.
