NASCAR makes changes after first practice at Talladega

NASCAR announced two changes following Friday’s first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice session at Talladega Superspeedway after 21 cars topped 200 MPH in the first of two sessions.

The first change is that NASCAR is having teams add a one-inch wicker to the top of the spoiler, which should slow the single-car speeds.

The second change is that NASCAR is allowing teams to switch between the two gear options (.345 and .350). This will be allowed once qualifying begins. Teams must keep that same gear in the car through Sunday’s race.

NASCAR discussed the changes with multiple drivers and teams after the first session was completed.

Qualifying is scheduled to begin at 4:40 PM ET on Saturday afternoon with the Geico 500 beginning at 12:30 PM ET on FOX on Sunday.
