Kevin Harvick Signs Extension with Stewart-Haas Racing

The rumors, it turns out, are untrue: Kevin Harvick is staying with Stewart-Haas Racing for the foreseeable future.

The team announced Thursday (May 19) via a press release that the driver of the No. 4 will stay with the team in a “long-term” capacity.

“Any questions now…” Harvick tweeted shortly after the announcement, supplying a link to the release.

“It was a big decision to join Stewart-Haas Racing and it has turned out to be my best decision,” Harvick added in the release. “I came to Stewart-Haas Racing to win championships. We have one, but that only made us hungry for more. I’m very happy to have my future secure with a team so dedicated to winning.”

Added team co-owner Tony Stewart: “Kevin’s results speak for themselves, and in addition to those numbers, he brings a presence to our team that makes everyone want to work harder. Kevin Harvick has made Stewart-Haas Racing a better team and he will continue to be an integral part of our future.”

The release only specified that the extension was “long-term”; it is unknown how long Harvick and the team currently plan to stay together, if there is any end in sight at all.

Harvick, the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion, currently leads the Cup standings with a win, five top 5s and nine top 10s.

So much for that article on Monday. Though, I’m sure rumors will persist that Kahne is out of 5.

Harvick could have used a Hendrick offer as leverage and he maybe did consider Hendrick. All this means is Harvick stays at SH. This doesn’t mean Bowles is a bad joirnalist.

Well that just killed 200 Silly Season articles over the next 3 months (and that’s across the internet, not just Frontstretch). Now, what’s the next big topic?

I am still hard pressed to understand why Old Rick re-upped him? He hasn’t been a competitor for years. And his “commercial draw” with the very successful ” female fans” following him everywhere getting into accidents because of a Kasey Kahne sighting, has looooonnnnnggggggg past. He has had nothing going on for awhile. Just saying.
