Kasey Kahne wins Saturday Morning Practice at Martinsville

The momentum continues for Kasey Kahne.

After qualifying on the front row for Sunday’s STP 500, Kahne grabbed the top time in Saturday morning practice at Martinsville Speedway. With a 19.710-second lap on the half-mile track, he bested Ryan Newman by 0.046 seconds to claim top honors.

Martin Truex, Jr. was third as Brian Vickers finished fourth quick, continuing to show impressive pace in his No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet this weekend. Vickers continues to share the No. 14 with Tony Stewart while Stewart recovers from his offseason back injury.

Momentum is also on the side of Paul Menard and Richard Childress Racing. The veteran driver qualified fourth on Friday and finished fifth in the practice session, joining teammate Newman inside the top 5.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Casey Mears, Matt Kenseth, Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer completed the top 10.

On the opposite side of the grid, Austin Dillon, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Brad Keselowski and Carl Edwards finished outside the top-20 times. Dillon was especially surprising considering the success of his RCR teammates throughout the weekend.

Up next for the Sprint Cup Series is final practice.

To all the Kasey Kahne doubters, now he has won something. I guess this gets him into the Practice Chase.
