Gibbs Duo Early 2015 Food City 300 Favorites With Front Row Sweep at Bristol

Joe Gibbs Racing and Team Penske have combined to win 10 of the last 11 races at Bristol in the Xfinity Series, and following qualifying on Friday, it appears that Gibbs is in the catbird seat for this week’s edition.

JGR drivers Denny Hamlin (126.896 mph) and Kyle Busch (126.312) swept the front row for the Food City 300, with Hamlin leading all three rounds of knockout qualifying Friday afternoon.

Kevin Harvick (126.021), Brian Scott (125.996) and Chris Buescher (125.699) completed the top five.

Team Penske’s only entry, the No. 22 of Ryan Blaney, qualified sixth (125.445).

Kyle Larson (125.313), Elliott Sadler (124.963), Daniel Suarez (124.914) and Chase Elliott (124.695) qualified seventh through 10th.

Ty Dillon (123.849) and Regan Smith (123.833) also made it through all three rounds. They qualified 11th and 12th respectively.

Brandon Jones, fresh off a fifth-place finish in last night’s Camping World Truck Series race, was the first driver to miss the final round of qualifying. He will roll off 13th.

With only 40 cars entered for the event, nobody missed the race.

The Food City 300 will go green at 7:30. Coverage will be on NBCSN.

Ah, another free night where I won’t be sitting in front of the TV, wasting my time watching another Cup practise.

Amen.

“With only 40 cars entered for the event, nobody missed the race.”

This is Bristol and they couldn’t muster up a full field. That right there should tell you the health of the series.
