After years of success in NASCAR’s minor leagues, Brandon Gdovic is finally taking the next step.
Viva Motorsports announced early Monday that Gdovic will drive the team’s No. 55 WindStax Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway in this Friday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts 300. The race will mark Gdovic’s first NASCAR Xfinity Series start. The Virginian will receive support from WindStax Wind Power Systems, along with traditional Viva Motorsports sponsors Viva Auto Group, Bestway Autos, and Viva Powersports.
Gdovic, 23, has competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East throughout the last four seasons, scoring 21 top-10s in only 47 starts and a win at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in 2013. Gdovic has also ran two races in the ARCA Racing Series, and plans to compete in this season’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship.
Gdovic will be the third driver to compete in the No. 55 Chevrolet this season. Jamie Dick and Jeffrey Earnhardt have driven the car in the first five races, with a high finish of 16th at Daytona. Dick has stepped away from his driving role after being diagnosed with diabetes prior to the March 21 race at Auto Club Speedway.
