Nickelodeon Announces Title Sponsorship of Kansas Speedway Night Race

SpongeBob SquarePants will make his NASCAR return at Kansas Speedway in May.

Monday afternoon, Nickelodeon announced its title sponsorship of the May 8 night race at Kansas Speedway. Dubbed the SpongeBob SquarePants 400, the race will be broadcast live on FOXSports 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET.

“I’m excited to partner with Nickelodeon for the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 on May 9,” said Patrick Warren, Kansas Speedway president. “This is a great opportunity for us to engage SpongeBob fans of all ages to racing with a great partner.”

In addition to the title sponsorship, Nickelodeon will also have several family-themed activities throughout the weekend in the Kansas Speedway Fan Zone. There will be appearances from SpongeBob SquarePants characters, a photo station and more that has no yet been announced.

working with a best-in-class track to give fans a unique, engaging and high-quality race experience that the whole family can enjoy,” said Pam Kaufman, Chief Marketing Officer and President of Consumer Products, Nickelodeon Group. “Nickelodeon has embarked on some great initiatives with NASCAR over the last 10 years, sponsoring and participating in marquee racing events that have resonated with motorsports fans across the country.”

Nickelodeon has a relationship with NASCAR that dates all the way back to 2004 and the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 XFINITY race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Almost immediately after the announcement, the fun began on Twitter.

I can just imagine how hideously obnoxious the winner’s trophy is going to look like. I’ll feel sorry for whoever wins that night.
